My fiance cut his hair like patrick dempsey for me, i really like it, but hes moaning because he has to put gel in it to keep it in place, I was wondering what the best thing to put in it. as i really like the cut and dont want him having hippy longish hair again as it doesnt suit his face. Do not use ';men's haircolor';. They think men all have the same color hair and it looks totally fake. Match regular semipermanent color to your natural and use that. Clairol is always a safe bet. Then get a shampoo made for color-treated hair so you don't strip you color out after a week.

But all the 'add on' plastic guards, are labelled , 0.1'; , 0.25'; , 0.5'; , 0.75';, etc

I have short and straight hair (like my avatar, haha), and I've been using L'Oreal Alt Studio Crystal Wax for the past 4 years I've had my hair short. It's really good. It makes your hair shine and look wet without drying up, hardening, or flaking. Your hair will be styled and be shiny but still be able to move when the wind blows.
american crew has a fiber that is good for thicker hair, it is also less greasy you can find it at most drugstores. also there's a product called magic move that is STELLAR but i've never seen it in stores so you'll probably have to buy it online.
manipulator is great, a personal preferance of mine, but if your looking for something a little less expensive go withla bella brand stringy spike glue. you get about twice as much for $3.99. i found mine at walgreens.
My daughter uses one called Spiker Ice by Joico. She gets it in the hair salon in the Wal-Mart stores. She loves it

You can use a good moisturizing shampoo (doesn't matter if women use it too), a good conditioner, and either dry it naturally or using low heat or no heat (like a fan) and if it frizzes, there are products that you can use on your hair that would calm the frizzes down. I believe you put it on (spray or gel) before you dry your hair.

You can buy hair products that stop the frizz.. Hairdryers automatically dry your hair out but if you insist on using one have it set on a low temp.

You can use horse shampoo and conditioner, but I don't think it is any better than people shampoo unless your trying to make your hair really shiny with some of the products that make white - whiter, red-redder and black - blacker. It's probably cheaper than people shampoo though.

I recommend Aveda Control Paste. It's easy to work with and a little goes a long way. It doesn't build up and it washes out easily. (Don't use Garnier Fructis shampoo; I don't think it washes out very well with that product. I use Tres Semme shampoo.) I have been using it for many years. Occasionally I try something else, but I always go back to Aveda Control Paste! Plus, Aveda is an environmentally responsible company.

I'm a cosmetologist, and I have hair that sounds like yours, although mine is a lighter brown. I like the curls but don't like the frizz when it's too dry, and I don't like a lot of greasy, heavy product in my hair (NEVER use gel!)





While I am caucasian, I still use some ethnic products - I've found Care Free Curl to work really well. It is a non-greasy glycerin based lotion that comes in a yellowish bottle. It's at most WalMarts and it's cheap. You can put some in your palm and work it through after a shower, or put it in a spray bottle with a little water to use when your hair is dry. It keeps the curls active while keeping a moist (not greasy) look.


Avoid oil based products as they will actually DRY your hair in the long run(oil repels moisture).
Paul Mitchell foaming pomade. It takes a little while to get the hang of it, but it works pretty good.





Ask your stylist. They can give you more ideas.

I use spikers I cant remember the maker but it's in a blue tube similar to got2b. There is no really unhealthy product except maybe ironing your hair. I would also look to American Crew they are gender specific for men in their products and they have a great pomade and a fantastic glue for your hair and they tend to be what I go with the majority of the time.......Other than that washing your hair regularlly and taking it out of your hair and at time not putting it in your hair help too balance out the stress you put on it from time to time.

There isnt a specific hair product that will do your hair justice. Yet you can look at the type of Hair Product on offer to determine the look. Your asking for hair that will be held in place but not shiny, thus stay well away from wet look Gel's. Your ideal range would be Hair Products that describe themselves with words such as Wax, Fudge, or Mud. Take a look at your local salon or pharmacy and open them to determine the toughness of the hair product. Ideally if you apply pressure it should deform slightly with moderate pressure.





I'd recommend any mid to long hold wax. Brands like Fudge and Schwartzkopf are good as well.

I'm on the pill right now. Propecia seems to have slowed down, maybe stopped the thinning I saw before, but my doctor told me it won't reverse hair loss. I am going to start Rogaine sometime soon.

Yes a grade 8 does exist, however, getting it clippered like that will only mean you will need to get a haircut quicker as it will be longer than what you are used to and start growing in your ears within about 2 weeks. As a stylist myself I would suggest getting a 4 back and sides and ask the stylist to point cut the top. This will remove bulk and add texture, so it wont look so helmet-like. And blend in the sides.


Use a little bit of wax to define it.


Put a little bit of wax (dax wax blue or fudge hair varnish are good) on the palms of ur hands and rub themtogetherr, then rub this over ur hair, a bit like u were drying it with a towel, minus the towel.

Do not use ';men's haircolor';. They think men all have the same color hair and it looks totally fake. Match regular semipermanent color to your natural and use that. Clairol is always a safe bet. Then get a shampoo made for color-treated hair so you don't strip you color out after a week.

I have short and straight hair (like my avatar, haha), and I've been using L'Oreal Alt Studio Crystal Wax for the past 4 years I've had my hair short. It's really good. It makes your hair shine and look wet without drying up, hardening, or flaking. Your hair will be styled and be shiny but still be able to move when the wind blows.
american crew has a fiber that is good for thicker hair, it is also less greasy you can find it at most drugstores. also there's a product called magic move that is STELLAR but i've never seen it in stores so you'll probably have to buy it online.
manipulator is great, a personal preferance of mine, but if your looking for something a little less expensive go withla bella brand stringy spike glue. you get about twice as much for $3.99. i found mine at walgreens.

You can use a good moisturizing shampoo (doesn't matter if women use it too), a good conditioner, and either dry it naturally or using low heat or no heat (like a fan) and if it frizzes, there are products that you can use on your hair that would calm the frizzes down. I believe you put it on (spray or gel) before you dry your hair.

You can buy hair products that stop the frizz.. Hairdryers automatically dry your hair out but if you insist on using one have it set on a low temp.

You can use horse shampoo and conditioner, but I don't think it is any better than people shampoo unless your trying to make your hair really shiny with some of the products that make white - whiter, red-redder and black - blacker. It's probably cheaper than people shampoo though.

I'm a cosmetologist, and I have hair that sounds like yours, although mine is a lighter brown. I like the curls but don't like the frizz when it's too dry, and I don't like a lot of greasy, heavy product in my hair (NEVER use gel!)





While I am caucasian, I still use some ethnic products - I've found Care Free Curl to work really well. It is a non-greasy glycerin based lotion that comes in a yellowish bottle. It's at most WalMarts and it's cheap. You can put some in your palm and work it through after a shower, or put it in a spray bottle with a little water to use when your hair is dry. It keeps the curls active while keeping a moist (not greasy) look.


Avoid oil based products as they will actually DRY your hair in the long run(oil repels moisture).
Paul Mitchell foaming pomade. It takes a little while to get the hang of it, but it works pretty good.





Ask your stylist. They can give you more ideas.

I would also look to American Crew they are gender specific for men in their products and they have a great pomade and a fantastic glue for your hair and they tend to be what I go with the majority of the time.......Other than that washing your hair regularlly and taking it out of your hair and at time not putting it in your hair help too balance out the stress you put on it from time to time.

There isnt a specific hair product that will do your hair justice. Yet you can look at the type of Hair Product on offer to determine the look. Your asking for hair that will be held in place but not shiny, thus stay well away from wet look Gel's. Your ideal range would be Hair Products that describe themselves with words such as Wax, Fudge, or Mud. Take a look at your local salon or pharmacy and open them to determine the toughness of the hair product. Ideally if you apply pressure it should deform slightly with moderate pressure.





I'd recommend any mid to long hold wax. Brands like Fudge and Schwartzkopf are good as well.

I'm on the pill right now. Propecia seems to have slowed down, maybe stopped the thinning I saw before, but my doctor told me it won't reverse hair loss. I am going to start Rogaine sometime soon.

Yes a grade 8 does exist, however, getting it clippered like that will only mean you will need to get a haircut quicker as it will be longer than what you are used to and start growing in your ears within about 2 weeks. As a stylist myself I would suggest getting a 4 back and sides and ask the stylist to point cut the top. This will remove bulk and add texture, so it wont look so helmet-like. And blend in the sides.


Use a little bit of wax to define it.


Put a little bit of wax (dax wax blue or fudge hair varnish are good) on the palms of ur hands and rub themtogetherr, then rub this over ur hair, a bit like u were drying it with a towel, minus the towel.
