Do women dress up and wear makeup, do their hair, for the men, or in competition with other women?

It seems to me that men are so clueless about what we wear, we aren't ';sprucing ourselves up'; to be attractive to men (or for girls to look good for the boys).





I recently visited an all-girls school, and I noticed that even though there were NO boys around, or even male teachers, the girls were as coiffed and accessorized as any girl surrounded by cute jocks in a co-ed public high school.





When I walk into work my first thought is of what the other ladies are wearing and wonder if I have topped them. We're always complementing each other on various outfits or specific pieces, but the men never seem to notice any of it, nor do any of us seem to try to get them to notice.





It seems to me that we're in competition with each other for being top of the female pecking-order. It's not about pleasing men at all!Do women dress up and wear makeup, do their hair, for the men, or in competition with other women?
yeah we really do only care about what other girls think of us. But if guys like it too then its an extra bonus. But alot of guys i talk to say they dont like it when girls go too crazy over clothes hair and makeup. your suspiscion is correct...men don't care at all about fashion...men are attracted to what looks physically appealing, not what is stylish...most men couldn't tell the difference between a $50 purse and $1000 purse...
It is partially both, but in reality it is because we want to feel better about ourselves... We women are very complicating...
reasons:





1. to look good


2. to look better than other women


3. to impress thier guy


4. to bug their parents if theyre parents dont let them wear makeup


5. becuz everyone else does it
Women have reasons to look good simply because they are trying to get the man's attention and make other women look hideous.
I wear clothes that make me feel good. I like to look nice for myself but also so others don't think I'm a skank - superficial I know - but honest!
Beauty comes from within. Women who think that way are superficial.
It's both, we want to look better than the girl next to us so the boy next her will notice us
I've always wanted to look clean and nice for myself-but if it got me looks-that's just benefits
I think it's both.
Personally I dress to please myself!
